World Intellectual Property Day

World Intellectual Property Day – April 26

Every year on April 26, World Intellectual Property Day celebrates innovation and creativity and how intellectual property fosters and encourages them.
World IP Day 2012 focuses on Visionary Innovators – individuals whose ingenuity and artistry have broken molds, opened new horizons and made a lasting impact.
You can see the themes from previous years, as well as the related artwork, Director General’s messages and member states’ activities, in the World IP Day archives.
WIPO receives posters every year from its member states and from other organizations around the globe – going back to the first World IP Day in 2001.

How World IP Day began

To increase general understanding of what IP really means, WIPO member states chose April 26 – the day on which the WIPO Convention came into force in 1970 – as World IP Day.
Since then, IP Day offers an exciting chance each year to join with others around the globe, to highlight, discuss and demonstrate how the IP system contributes to the flourishing of music and the arts and to driving the technological innovation that helps shape our world.
Your thoughts and contributions are welcomed!

Events and activities

Member States and organizations are encouraged to send brief reports of the events and activities organized in their country to celebrate World IP Day to worldipday@wipo.int and/or the World IP Day

IIPE-Knowledge Sharing Meet Feb 2012

Indian Institution of Production Engineers - I.I.P.E. – Western Region

 Knowledge Sharing Meeting -Feb 2012

Subject: Logistics Management in the Era of Globalization
Globalization of manufacturing systems coupled with advancements in technology are increasingly compelling companies across verticals to concentrate on their core competencies and avail the cost saving  potential of outsourcing. This is expected to contribute to an increase in  the need for integrated logistic solutions, which is the niche of every Third Party Logistics Service (“3PL Services”) provider.Strong economic growth and liberalization including FDI in retail sector have led to considerable increase in domestic and international trade volumes over the past five years. Consequently, the requirement for transportation, handling and  warehousing is growing at a robust pace and is driving the demand for  integrated logistics solutions
Both speakers will share their experience on this vital subject. This will change paradigm . All interested are invited.

Indian Growth story demystified

Here is an old story retold in an Indian version . . . .  How true!!!!!!!!!

*An Old Story:*

The Ant works hard in the withering heat all summer building its house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The Grasshopper thinks the Ant is a fool and laughs & dances & plays the summer away.

Come  winter, the Ant is warm and well fed. The Grasshopper has no food or shelter so he dies out  in the cold.

Now
**
The INDIAN VERSION of the Same Story
**
The Ant works hard in the withering heat all summer building its house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The Grasshopper thinks the Ant's a fool and laughs & dances & plays the summer away.

Come  winter, the shivering Grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the Ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others are cold and starving.

NDTV, BBC, CNN show up to provide pictures of the shivering Grasshopper next to a video of the Ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food.

The World is stunned by the sharp contrast. How can this be that this poor Grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?

Arundhati Roy stages a demonstration in front of the Ant's house. Medha Patkar fasts along with other Grasshoppers demanding that Grasshoppers be relocated to warmer climates during winter Mayawati states this as `injustice' done on Minorities.

Amnesty  International and Ban Ki-moon criticize the Indian Government for not upholding the  fundamental rights of the Grasshopper.

The  Internet is flooded with online petitions seeking support to the Grasshopper (many promising Heaven and Everlasting Peace for prompt support as against the wrath of God for non-compliance).

Opposition MP's stage a walkout. Left parties call for 'Bengal Bandh' in West Bengal and Kerala demanding a Judicial Enquiry.

CPM  in Kerala  immediately passes a law preventing Ants from working hard in the heat so as to bring about equality of poverty among Ants and Grasshoppers.

Railway minister allocates one free coach to Grasshoppers on all Indian Railway  Trains, aptly named as the 'Grasshopper Rath'.

Finally,  the Judicial Committee drafts the ' Prevention of  Terrorism Against Grasshoppers Act' [POTAGA], with effect from the beginning of the winter.

Kapil Sibbal makes 'Special Reservation ' for Grasshoppers in Educational  Institutions & in Government Services.
The  Ant is fined for failing to comply with POTAGA and having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes,it's home is confiscated by the Government and handed over to the Grasshopper in a ceremony covered by NDTV.

Arundhati Roy calls it ' A Triumph of Justice'.
Lalu  calls it 'Socialistic Justice '.
CPM calls it the ' Revolutionary Resurgence of the Downtrodden Ban Ki-moon  invites the Grasshopper to address the UN General  Assembly.

Many years  later....

The  Ant has since migrated to the US and set up a multi-billion dollar company in Silicon Valley, 100s  of Grasshoppers  still die of starvation despite reservation somewhere  in India,

......AND FINALLY...

As a result of losing lot of hard working Ants and feeding the grasshoppers, India is still a developing country…!!!
